How can we really say God is Sovereign over all when there is so much chaos and pain in the world?
“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us”…- Romans 8:18 –
In Scripture, we read about the life and struggles of David. Although he was anointed by God to be King, David first had to fight against those who were trying to kill him. For years he was forced to wander throughout the desert and seek shelter in caves. That time of struggle brought David to the understanding that his future was ordained by God and no one could stop him from accomplishing what he started.
David wrote in Psalm 28:7, “The LORD is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped.”
In the midst of David’s troubles was a faithful God providing all that he needed for victory. The same is true for us today.
…”For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.”- Romans 8:24-25 (ESV)
The truth is we too often play the victim in our sufferings allowing the pity party to take center stage and evidently prevail. It feels natural for most of us to allow ourselves to focus on removing the suffering, or to sit around expecting a miracle. But sometimes the miracle is already happening right before our eyes if we would simply take time to find hope in all circumstances.
While there are so many beautiful things that can happen in a day; many tragic things can happen in that same day. It has been made clear in the Bible that our faith in Jesus does not remove suffering from our life, rather we are provided a means on which to deal with our suffering. Every day we must suffer through the death of our flesh in order to meet with and grow closer to the Spirit.
The guarantee we have in this life as Christians is that we are not victims of our circumstances. No matter what, we have hope, faith, and the ability to demonstrate love one to another. We do this by being obedient to God, His Will, and His plan for our life.
The lies of the enemy have no power to steal your joy so don’t willingly give it to him. Hold on to the heritage that you have because of Christ. Stand strong to the end knowing that God’s plan for you will work out not only for today but throughout eternity.
Are you willing to obey God in all circumstances even if YOUR prayers are not answered?
